Mark Briggs


Mark Briggs is director of digital media at King 5 TV in Seattle and the author of Entrepreneurial Journalism: How to Build What's Next for News, published by CQ Press. He also is a Ford Fellow of Entrepreneurial Journalism at The Poynter Institute and is the editor of the blog Journalism 2.0. He is the instructor for several courses at Poynter's NewsU, including Becoming an Entrepreneurial Journalist: From Idea to Implementation and Innovation at Work: Helping New Ideas Succeed.

His latest book on entrepreneurial journalism analyzes how news startups have blossomed into full-fledged media companies and how news entrepreneurs can launch their own news startups. He also is the author of Journalism 2.0 and Journalism Next.

Previously, Briggs was co-founder of Serra Media, a Seattle-based startup company, assistant managing editor for interactive news at The News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash., from 2004-2008 and new media director at The Herald in Everett, Wash., from 2000-2004. He was named to Presstime magazine's "20 under 40" list for 2007 and he earned journalism degrees from Gonzaga University and the University of North Carolina. He lives in Tacoma with his wife, Lori, son, Samuel, and daughter, Ellie. When he's offline, he enjoys hiking, skiing, wakeboarding, mountain biking and coaching youth sports.
